KARATE PHILOSOPHY

KARATE PHILOSOPHY

KARATE PHILOSOPHY

"On Ko Chi Shin" - Studying The Old Helps Us Better Understand The New

At Brooklin Karate, we teach traditional Karate. Originally developed as an unarmed form of self-defense from the internationally influenced arts of Okinawa, karate is a complete martial arts system that emphasizes strikes, kicks and blocks.

More significantly, karate-do is a way to live ones life. The ultimate aim of karate is to develop students, not only in terms of technique, but also in terms of character. The skills developed will help the student to become more focused, self-confident, self-aware, strategic, pro-active, and disciplined.

In addition to strong basic techniques, students will practice advanced techniques upon the foundation that they have created. Basics are critical not only because punches, kicks and blocks are the most essential elements of effective self-defense, but also because their development results in the improvement of balance, coordination, reflex, timing, power, and focus.

KARATE TRAINING

KARATE PHILOSOPHY

KARATE PHILOSOPHY

Karate training may be classified into four categories:

KIHON WAZA

Basic techniques in isolation and combination form the foundation of karate. All aspects of body movement and coordination are necessary for the perfection of technique, which has its application in other aspects of training including self-defense and personal development.

KATA

A form (kata) is an integrated series of techniques that can be used to defend oneself against acts of physical violence. Performed individually by a student in order to understand the deeper aspects of the techniques, kata is an indispensable tool for all aspects of karate training.

KIHON KUMITE

By working with a partner to apply karate techniques for specific situations, students are able to develop practical skills while working on broader aspects of martial arts such as timing, body positioning, and teamwork.

KUMITE

Sparring is a simulation of a real combat situation using karate techniques to defend against an aggressive attacker. There is minimal contact and we have an exceptional record for safety. Even though there may be protective equipment used during this exercise, students must be aware that injuries may occur.

CHILDREN'S & FAMILY CLASSES

CHILDREN'S & FAMILY CLASSES

CHILDREN'S & FAMILY CLASSES

Brooklin Wado-Kai Karate welcomes adults, teens, whole familes, and with our dedicated children's class we welcome students 6 years old and up.

Our classes are family oriented, meaning that parents and children can train together.  This should not discourage any adults, teens or youth (10 years old +) who would like to train on their own from joining. Regardless of age, all instruction is at a level that ensures all students are challenged.

Our children's classes have a dedicated head instructor and assistant instructors to always keep the interest of the student while challenging their abilities to realize their potential.

We ensure that all instruction in our children's classes is done with a minimum of two instructors present at all times, to maintain the care of our students as well as the confidence of their parents.
